Nature and Natura 2000
The nature in Kozjansko park is known for its extremely high biodiversity, which is also indicated by the fact that 69% of the area of the Kozjansko regional park are Natura 2000 areas. Record-keeping and monitoring make the lists of plant and animal species longer each year. The abundant data on orchids, butterflies, grasshoppers, and insects are particularly note-worthy.
Natura 2000
Natura 2000 is a European network of special protected areas defined by EU member states in accordance of the Habitats and Birds Directive. Its primary goal is to preserve biodiversity for the good of future generations. The aim is to preserve animal and plant species in the protected areas, as well as habitats that are rare or already endangered on a European scale.
