According to Matvejev and Puncer, the area of Kozjanski Park is divided into two biomes: predominantly deciduous forest and coniferous forest of boreal type. There are three forest reserves within the park: Pišece, Vranske pečine – Tisovec and Kunšperk. From the aspect of successful forest protection, the reserve area is way too small.
